Eric Adlercreutz – The Architect’s Pen Meets the Paper

\r\n The exhibition The Architect’s Pen Meets the Paper – Sketches and drawings from 1950-2018 is on view at Kirkkonummi Main Library Fyyri 21.1–26.2.2022\r\nThe Architect’s Pen Meets the Paper tells the story of Eric Adlercreutz’s (b. 1935) wide-ranging career as an architect and shows how drawing has played a major role in his work, while also revealing it to be a lifelong passion. For Adlercreutz drawing is not just a technical performance, but a way of thinking – a collaboration between brain and hand. He says thinking by drawing is still part of the architect’s work, even though nowadays many architects are aided by modern technology.\r\n\r\nThe exhibition is produced by Pro Artibus Foundation. The exhibition was shown in 2018 at Elverket in Ekenäs, after which it has continued to Museum of Finnish Architecture in Helsinki 13.6–8.9.2019, the Alvar Aalto Museum in Jyväskylä 27.9.2019–5.1.2020 and Sibelius Museum in Turku 3.6–1.12.2020. 21.1–26.2.2022 the exhibition is on view at Kirkkonummi Main Library Fyyri.\r\n\r\n", "_content": "field_5f3e8ccfac8a7", "bottom_border": "1", "_bottom_border": "field_5f3f5276c1164" }, "align": "", "mode": "edit" } /-->

Mural competition

\r\n\r\nThe Society of Swedish Literature in Finland (SLS), Swedish Cultural Foundation in Finland (SKF) and Pro Artibus Foundation are jointly holding a mural competition.\r\n\r\n\r\nThe façade of the building owned by the Housing Company: Bostads Ab Runebergsgatan 50 in Helsinki, Finland, was renovated during summer 2019. The end wall at the intersection of Runeberginkatu Street and Töölönkatu-street needs a new mural. Prior to the renovation, the wall was covered in an advertising mural. The client wants to highlight this unique site and to use contemporary art to enhance the Töölö district.\r\n\r\nThe client would like the design of the mural to get people to pay attention to their surroundings. The foliage on the maple tree on the adjacent plot of land varies with the seasons, affecting the visibility of the façade and the mural. A further stipulation is that the character of the district should be taken into account.\r\n\r\nAll professional artists resident in the Nordic countries, i.e. Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway or Iceland, can participate in the competition, either alone, as a working duo, or as a group. The participants should have previous experience of realizing a mural. Applicants should familiarize themselves thoroughly with the competition programme in order to participate.\r\n\r\nThe competition…

Bird’s Nest

Wood installation, speakers (photo: Ahmed Alalousi) Bird’s Nest consists of yellow triangle formations in wood that have been bolted together intuitively by the visual artist Jan-Erik Andersson, starting from the specific site where it is being exhibited, along with a sound installation. The sound elements are produced by the US sound artist Shawn Decker. The viewer can sit down inside the organic structure and take in the sound installation. Bird’s Nest is thus a site-specific, interactive sculptural work and has been shown, usually in public places adjoining cafés, since 2001. Andersson imitates the way birds create things, taking a triangle and attaching it to the next one. The form is not measured out, but is found in the artist’s brain. He uses this structure to investigate new methods for architecture by starting with shapes and modes of production that can be found in nature. At the same time, the project criticizes modernism’s method of using modules to create larger wholes. A module – the triangle – is used here, but the result is a structured chaos, which is also very stable. Decker’s soundscape is artificial, but uses the rhythms and sounds of nature. It synchronizes with the surroundings and can…
